Rodney Jane accepts invite to race Audi in Fanatec GT Asia

Rodney Jane will make his racing debut in Asia this weekend, competing in the second round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.

Jane, a regular in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Series and CEO of Bob Jane T-Marts, will co-drive with Dutchman Henk Kiks in the B-Quik Absolute Racing Audi R8 GT3, marking both his first race in Asia, and his first drive in a GT3 racing car series.

The drive will be a one-off guest spot for Jane, linking up with his friend Kiks, who owns the team as well as being the driver.

Kiks is a driver with decades of experience and holds a wealth of experience at the Chang International Circuit, a fact that will no doubt benefit Jane who has never been to the circuit before.

While Jane is a rookie on Asian circuits, he is an experienced AM driver in Carrera Cup, winning multiple titles in the all-Porsche championship, and last year made a start at Le Mans in the Porsche Carrera Cup support race.

Jane says he is looking forward to the Thailand experience.

"I can't wait to get over to Thailand and race at the Chang circuit," said Jane.

"Racing alongside Henk will be a blast. We are good friends in business and in life, and sharing the seat with him is something I'm really looking forward to. I appreciate the opportunity that Henk has provided.

"This will be my second race outside of Australia, and my first in Asia, so it's going to be a brand-new experience. I really look forward to making the most of the weekend with Henk in a B-Quik Bob Jane T-Marts car.”

Kiks is also excited ahead of the event.

“We’re just come off the back of a good weekend here in Buriram with TSS The Super Series, so the team is right up to speed, race sharp, we are right in the zone and pretty excited to join Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia,” said Kiks.

“The series is a showcase of skill and professionalism like no other, so it’s great to be able to race with these guys.

“It will be the first time I’ve raced with Rodney and that’s pretty exciting and going to be a lot of fun. A great guy and a friend, I’m kind of ticking off some boxes here, sharing a car with him for the first time. Let’s see what we can get out of this, we for sure want to be on the AM podium.”

Private practice will be held on Thursday, followed by two practice sessions on Friday, qualifying for both races on Saturday and two one hour races on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

You can watch Saturday 12pm AEST and Sunday 7.45am AEST live at Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS https://www.gt-world-challenge-asia.com/live
