Twice a year for the last 3 years Wild Reaches have travelled throughout Cape York for 5 - 6 weeks at a time.
Not just doing the usual Telegraph track to the tip and back but, completing all the tracks that aren’t on the maps, pushing into remote coastlines to chase the elusive Barramundi and live off the land with Aboriginal friends, learning their culture and bringing these adventures and experiences to everyone on YouTube.
“I want to showcase the beauty and depth of aboriginal culture to all Australians and people around the world that don't have the privilege of witnessing it” says Nathan Lickfold creator of Wild reaches.
“My "job" is to push into these remote communities or aboriginal run cattle stations and integrate with the local clans. By showing the respect they deserve. I spend as much time as I can with the elders’ hearing stories about the old days and trying to piece together the puzzle”.
These road trips put a lot of pressure on the Wild Reaches 79 series Landcruiser to get into these places and back out safely. The most critical component to this is wheels and tyres.
Bob Jane T-Marts fitted Yokohama Geolandar G003’s to a set of ROH Hammers for the recent Wild Reaches expedition in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
“The 315/75R16’s were the perfect fit under the LC79 giving us good clearance, amazing side wall protection and superior traction in all the conditions we faced from soft sand, muddy tracks, corrugated roads to wet and dry bitumen”, said Nathan.
“With the GVM upgraded, the LC79 fully loaded and towing a toy hauler wheel choice is paramount. The 16x9 ROH hammers are rated to 1500kg per corner which allows us to get home to our families safely after each trip.”
“We gave these G003’s a good test, driving 6000kms of bitumen getting to the Cape and back. The tyres sat on 55PSI rear and 50PSI at the front. When hitting the rougher tracks, we deflated only 5 - 10PSI out of each corner and dropped 30PSI from each corner in soft sand. This is all that was needed. Checking the tyres now, 10000kms in, they look near new with no damage whatsoever. We’re really impressed” he concluded.
