The Equity One Porsche Carrera Cup Australia resumed following a two-month hiatus at Queensland Raceway, where the Bob Jane T-Marts-supported entries prepared by Sonic Motor Racing Services accumulated solid results.

Marcos Flack, Angelo Mouzouris and defending Pro-Am champion Rodney Jane came into the third round of the championship hoping for increased and consistent performances at Queensland Raceway.

Equity One Porsche Carrera Cup Australia welcomed a new weekend format at the previous event in Darwin, consisting of dual 45-minute races instead of the previous three contests hosted.

Qualifying proved a challenge for the team, but the race pace was exceptional, allowing all three drivers to move through the field with relative ease.

Mouzouris moved up seven positions in the opening race to finish eighth and did the same in the second to score seventh, which was a solid body of work.

It was the same story for Flack, but a post-race 15-second penalty hampered his result in the opener, dropping him from inside the top 10 to 15th. Race 2 provided a better result for Flack as he finished eighth.

Jane qualified second in Pro-Am as fluid spoiled a strong Race 1 result when he toured the gravel trap. Recovering to sixth, Jane enjoyed a better run in the second encounter to finish third.

The next round of the Equity One Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship is at The Bend on September 11-13.

“The year is nearly finished and we’re only finishing Round 3,” said Flack.

“I’m happy just to finish both races this weekend. It wasn’t an ideal start as Qualifying didn’t go our way, but to fight back to eighth before a penalty Saturday and finishing in the same position on Sunday.

“It wasn’t too bad of a recovery, so we’ll see how we go for the next round. We have a test day there at The Bend and hopefully we can find something to be more prepared for the next round.”

“I was very happy with Qualifying and missed out on pole by 0.005s, which was a little frustrating though I did get pole for the second race,” Jane said.

“Got a great start in the first race and was leading comfortably before I hit fluid at Turn 6, which led to me sliding off into the gravel trap. I recovered to continue in last and made up a few positions to finish in sixth.

“I got a good start in Race 2, but entered Turn 3 and another driver was in the middle of the track, so on cold tyres I had nowhere to go. Contact was made, and the steering was bent, leading to me giving away three spots.

“Managed to recover to third, which was pretty good.”
