Bob Jane T-Marts tastes Porsche podium in Ipswich

Sonic Motor Racing Services’ three-pronged Bob Jane T-Marts Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship enjoyed podium success and solid speed at the category’s return to Queensland Raceway.

‘The Paperclip’ as it’s affectionately known appears to be a simple layout on paper, but is deceptively challenging courtesy of its heavy braking zone, big bumps and fast constant radius corners.

The team’s Pro-Am contender Rodney Jane led the standings entering Queensland Raceway and was one of only two drivers in the field to contest the last round held there in 2008.

Jane was again joined by his Pro teammates Marcos Flack and Angelo Mouzouris as Sonic aimed to enter the second half of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship season on a high.

Mouzouris led the way for Sonic at Queensland Raceway after qualifying 10th, he scored 13th after a lock up on the opening lap hurt his speed for the remainder of the encounter.

Displaying his true pace on Sunday, Mouzouris celebrated his 24th birthday by scoring his best result of the season in fifth after the 45-minute mini-enduro. Rounding out the event, Mouzouris scored ninth in the final to cap off the trip to Queensland.

For Flack, qualifying 12th left work to be done and eighth in Race 1 proved a great start. A shuffle of positions led to 12th in Race 2 and another eighth completed the results for the round.

There was another trophy for Jane after finishing third in the Pro-Am Class for the round following results of second, sixth and third. A spin during the mini-enduro hurt Jane’s chances of further extending his margin at the top of the Pro-Am Class.

The next round for the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship is at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park on September 12-14.

“Overall, a positive weekend,” said Mouzouris.

“We got a top five result in Race 2, with the car being strong and fast, which was awesome.

“In the last race, I copped a big hit and had to nurse the car home, but it was an overall good weekend.

“We collected some points and now I cannot wait to get to The Bend.”

“Queensland Raceway is my home racetrack, so it was a good weekend,” said Flack.

“Overall, the round was a little disappointing given the amount of potential we had in practice and  we didn’t really get to demonstrate it in any of the races or qualifying.

“We leave the round on a bit of a down, but we will try and build it for the next event.

“Let’s get back to it.”

“I qualified nowhere and nowhere after we did some testing here, but didn’t make the most of it to start with,” said Jane.

“The track changed a lot between testing and the round in addition to the sessions across the weekend, so I probably should’ve adapted a bit better.

“I got a cracking start in the first race and the car was pretty good, with the car feeling comfortable. Sam’s (Shahin) has been racing in Europe and came back super fast, so I just need to find a bit more speed.

“I made another great start in Race 2, but I made a mistake at Turn 3 and spun all by myself, which was pretty disappointing.

“The boys set-up the car well and had everything in place, so I needed to do better myself.

“In the last, I tried to redeem myself in the third race where I started fifth and finished third, so lucky to scrape onto the podium overall for the round.

“Good weekend overall.”
