Milestones celebrated by Bob Jane T-Marts in Darwin

Bob Jane T-Marts celebrated milestones in the heat of Darwin for Round 2 of Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

There were two achievements to recognise as Rodney Jane celebrated 250 race starts in the category, while Angelo Mouzouris reached 100.

Jane’s road to 250 marks a near two-decade stint at Sonic Motor Racing Services headlined by the Pro-Am Championship title last year.

For Mouzouris, every one of his 100 starts has been with Sonic Motor Racing Services after previously graduating from the team’s Formula Ford program following the likes of David Reynolds, Nick Foster and James Moffat.

Darwin ended a three-month break for Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia after the opening round at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park.

There was also a new format mimicking the one used overseas in Porsche competition hosting two 45-minute races. Darwin made this format extra challenging due to the heat and challenging Hidden Valley Raceway layout.

Mouzouris led the way for Bob Jane T-Marts all weekend by finishing both races ninth and 12th.

Teammate Marcos Flack endured a tough second race lasting until Turn 6 after an opening corner clash damaged his steering. Flack finished 11th in Race 1 in a challenging opening event.

An off-track excursion hampered Jane’s opening race, but he recovered well to finish on the Pro-Am podium in the finale, remaining in contention for the championship.

Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia has another break until the third event on the schedule at Queensland Raceway on August 21-23.

“We turned the weekend around after struggling with set-up in practice and qualifying,” said Mouzouris.

“We got the car in a really good window for Race 1 and ended up seventh but dropped back due to a penalty. The car was super-fast though.

“Moving into Race 2, we were stuck in the middle of the pack where everyone is slow and it’s hard to pass. Once we cleared all those drivers, we were punching out some good laps.

“We sorted the car out, which is good news for our next round at Queensland Raceway. I’m really looking forward to it”

“We’ve had a terrible start to the year,” said Flack.

“It’s effectively Round 1 for me and I ended up in the garage for the least race.

“I’m hoping to get back some momentum at my home race at Queensland Raceway. I can sleep in my own bed, which has always been good for me, so we’ll see if we can turn it around there.”

“We started the weekend super-fast in the opening practice session, but this dropped in the second one,” said Jane.

“We were faster than last year in qualifying and worked towards being at the front in the session.

“I had a rough run at the start of Race 1 where I had a coming together at Turn 5 and ran last after this before working my way back. I think I drove well to come back with all things considered.

“In Race 2 I started second and finished third in class but didn’t quite have the pace of the two drivers in front.

“We need to find half a second on the frontrunners, so we’ll go back to the workshop and find out what we’re missing ahead of Queensland Raceway.”
