Rodney Jane and Bob Jane T-Marts have scored victory at Round 4 of the Equity One Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship at The Bend in South Australia.

Jane fought off the advances of a close Pro-Am Class field to take his first victory in his title defence season, while a storm forced the cancellation of the second race, ensuring that no one logged any race laps on Sunday.

Pro Class Bob Jane T-Marts teammates Marcos Flack and Angelo Mouzouris endured a mixed round after displaying solid pace leading into qualifying.

The Equity One Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship used The Bend’s West Circuit layout for the first time and it provided plenty of action.

Jane was on pace immediately and scored his second pole of the season, converting it to victory despite a late safety car eliminating his comfortable margin.

After displaying front-running pace, Flack went off at Turn 5 in qualifying and lost his front splitter hampering the rest of the session.

Flack was fighting for a spot in the top five until everything came unstuck at the same corner as in Qualifying and he managed to salvage ninth.

Mouzouris rode shotgun behind Flack and the duo moved up through teamwork, with the second Bob Jane T-Marts Porsche finishing 10th.

The start of Race 2 was attempted behind the safety car, but a storm rolled through, making conditions impossible for the event.

The next round takes the Bob Jane T-Marts Porsche trio to Bathurst on October 8-11.

“It’s been a good weekend for us,” said Jane.

“Practice was good, qualified first, which was my second pole for the year and our car was really good.

“In Race 1, I started first and finished first. The car was really good throughout the race, particularly in the first half before I saved my tyres under the safety car period to hold it together in the end. I like the longer 45-minute race format as it suits me well.

“Unfortunately, Sunday’s race started in the rain and it only got worse from there as it started pouring on the warm up lap. It bucketed down when we did a couple of laps behind the safety car, but there was that much rain the tyres couldn’t pump the water out at 60kmh as the cars were aquaplaning.It was the right call to cancel the race.

“We made some changes that are better for me this weekend and it paid off, so we’ll head to Bathurst next.”

“It didn’t end on a great note after Race 2 got cancelled due to the wet, but conditions were pretty tricky," said Mouzouris. 

"The track drainage wasn’t that good and canceling the race was probably the right call.

“Race 1 was alright, we finished 10th from 15th on the grid. We just struggled to qualify again, but hopefully at Bathurst we can work it out and put some good laps together at Australia’s best track!”

“It wasn’t a bad weekend at The Bend for me,” said Flack.

“Friday was good, but I’ll need to study why I fell off so hard from second in the two practice sessions to be nowhere in qualifying. Maybe there’s a bit of work to do on my side there.

“Race 1, I moved up to seventh from 11th during the opening two laps before I decided to exit stage right at Turn 5 to start my new business venture of Flacky’s Mowing Services.

“Then Race 2 was rained out, which was unfortunate as I was keen to see what I could do in the wet conditions.

“Bathurst is up next and it is one of my best circuits on the calendar, so I’m looking forward to going there.”
