BYD Dolphin tyres are listed in just three sizes, spanning 16, 17 and 18-inch wheels. Small tyres like these are cheap to replace, but they still wear fast if pressures slip.
Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection
Two factory sizes and one XL option are listed below, from 195/60R16 up to 215/45R18.
- 205/50R17 tyres: factory fitment, 2023 onwards
- 195/60R16 tyres: factory fitment, 2025 onwards
- 215/45R18 XL tyres: also listed as a fit, 2023–2025
Check the placard, then the sidewall, for the size, load index and speed rating. The 215/45R18 carries an XL marking, so it is not interchangeable with a standard tyre. A Bob Jane T-Marts store near you can confirm your size in minutes.
Narrow tyres and running costs
The 195/60R16 has a tall sidewall and a narrow tread, which keeps the price low and the ride soft. The 205/50R17 sits between the two. The 215/45R18 XL is wider with a short wall, so it costs more and picks up kerb scuffs sooner.
For low running costs, read the rolling resistance and wet grip labels on everyday driving tyres. A tyre that scores well on both will usually serve a small wheel best.
Pressure checks for small tyres
Small tyres hold less air, so a few PSI lost shows up quickly in tread wear. Check each tyre cold once a month against the placard.
Look for wear on both shoulders, which points to low pressure, and replace at the 1.5mm legal limit at the latest. Read the date code too, since tyres on a lightly used car can age before the tread wears.
On narrow tyres, wet grip is worth checking first, because a small contact patch leaves less margin on a wet road. Noise ratings come second and tread life third.
