Ford Ranger tyres: PX and Next-Gen Rangers are not one fitment

Ford Ranger tyres need to be matched to the generation, grade and factory wheel package. A Ranger in the Australian fleet may be an earlier PX model or a Next-Gen vehicle, and the badge does not give you a universal tyre size. PX examples include 255/70R16, 265/65R17 and 265/60R18, depending on grade and factory wheel package. Next-Gen examples from 2022 extend from 255/70R16 to 255/55R20 on higher grades. Treat these as examples only: read the placard and the complete marking on every tyre already fitted to confirm the intended size, load index and speed rating for your Ranger.

That first check is especially important on a ute. A similar-looking tyre may not have the load capacity or construction required for your vehicle, tray load, canopy or towing use.

Load, towing and terrain decisions should follow the placard

Think about the work your Ranger actually does. A sealed-road work ute that tows occasionally has different needs from a touring setup that sees corrugations, gravel and remote travel. Highway-terrain tyres can be a sensible choice for predominantly bitumen driving, while all-terrain tyres may suit regular unsealed use. Neither category removes the need to retain the specified tyre size and ratings.

For towing or heavier loads, use the placard and owner's information to confirm the required load rating and cold pressures. Do not choose on tread appearance alone. If your Ranger is carrying accessories or has a changed suspension setup, get fitment advice before moving away from the factory wheel-and-tyre combination.

Ford's 15 mm guidance is not a blank cheque for a wheel change

Ford Australia's tyre-and-wheel guidance notes 15 mm diameter limits in some vehicle and state examples, but it is not a blanket modification approval for every Ranger. Width, offset, clearance, load rating and state road rules still apply. A change that appears small on paper can still affect clearance or vehicle systems.
