Read the placard in the door jamb first, then compare it with the sidewall for size, load index and speed rating. The 195/65R15 and 195/60R15 differ in profile by a small step, and so do 205/55R16 and 205/50R16, so read every number. For a quick check, find a store near you and a fitter will help.
Affordable tyres and what to compare
The 185/65R15 and 195/65R15 have the tallest walls and the lowest prices, which suits a low running cost and a soft ride. The 225/40R18 is the lowest and widest, with sharper steering and a firmer ride.
For daily commuting, browse everyday driving tyres and compare the wet grip rating before you look at price. If fuel use matters, eco-friendly tyres have lower rolling resistance.
Tread depth and tyre pressure
On the Kia Cerato, measure pressures cold once a month against the placard. A tyre running a few PSI low wears quickly on the shoulders and uses more fuel.
The legal minimum tread depth is 1.5mm across the main grooves, but wet braking weakens well before that. Many drivers replace at around 3mm.
Rotating every 10,000km or so evens out wear, and replacing in pairs keeps grip balanced across the axle.
A fitter can check the tread across its full width at each service.
Ask for a wheel balance on every new tyre, since it prevents most vibrations at highway speed.
