The Solus TA31 from Kumho is a touring tyre for hatchbacks, sedans and small SUVs whose week is mostly stop-start traffic, roundabouts and suburban streets. It is built for comfortable, predictable control in changing weather rather than outright sporting grip, so it sits among our everyday driving tyres. Shoulder blocks for steady cornering

Kumho gives the TA31 wide, reinforced shoulder blocks. They help the tyre hold its shape as you turn into a side street or work through a busy car park, and Kumho says they also sharpen steering response and traction. For city driving, where you are constantly braking, turning and accelerating, that steadiness is what you notice most.

Clearing water on wet city streets

The tread uses four main grooves combined with sipes, plus broad lateral grooves that channel water out to the sides as the tyre rolls. Kumho designed this layout to improve wet traction and resist aquaplaning, which helps when a sudden downpour floods the gutters during the evening commute. The TA31 carries an M+S marking, and Kumho also highlights reduced rolling resistance to help with fuel use.

A compact size range

The range is small and focused. It includes 195/45R16 for small sporty hatches, a group of 16-inch sizes such as 205/60R16, 205/65R16 and 215/65R16 for small cars and compact SUVs, and 215/55R18 for crossovers on larger wheels. The M+S marking does not make it a snow tyre, so for alpine trips carry chains where required.
