In 2026, ‘MG4’ can mean a 17-inch Urban or an 18-inch MG4 EV
MG Australia now presents two related but separate ranges under the MG4 name. The MG4 EV Urban is offered as Essence 43 and Essence 54, both on 17-inch Starburst alloy wheels with 205/50R17 tyres. The regular MG4 EV range lists Essence 64 and XPOWER on 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45R18 tyres.
This is not a cosmetic wheel-size difference. The width and profile change as well, so a search for ‘MG4 tyres’ needs the exact vehicle family before it can produce a useful result. Start with a rego result, then compare the placard and sidewall markings. Do not order from an MG4 badge, an 18-inch wheel photo or battery capacity alone.
Essence 43, Essence 54 and Essence 64 are not interchangeable fitment labels
MG’s names make it easy to blend different cars together. Essence 43 and Essence 54 belong to the front-wheel-drive Urban range; MG lists 316km and 405km WLTP respectively. Essence 64 is the rear-wheel-drive regular MG4 EV and MG lists 452km WLTP. XPOWER is the all-wheel-drive performance version with 405km WLTP. The current Urban pair use 205/50R17, while the current Essence 64 and XPOWER use 235/45R18.
Use range or drivetrain labels to identify the car, not to choose a tyre. The published figures help distinguish the variants, but the driver-door placard still sets the size, load and speed requirements for the individual vehicle. That matters especially if an MG4 has changed hands, has aftermarket wheels or has had one wheel damaged and replaced.
An older Excite needs its own 17-inch check
A 17-inch search is not automatically a current Urban result. CarExpert’s Australian record for the earlier 2024 MG4 Excite specifies 215/50R17, while its 2025 Essence and XPOWER records use 235/45R18. That historical Excite size is useful for owners of that era, but it must not be substituted for the current Urban’s 205/50R17.
The MY26 Urban specification lists a tyre repair kit rather than a spare, so regular condition and pressure checks are particularly worthwhile before a longer trip. For replacement tyres, use Bob Jane’s rego or vehicle lookup to narrow the product grid, then use the tyre-size filter as a second check. If the placard and search result conflict, or the car has a warning light or abnormal wear, have the fitment assessed before ordering.
