MG3 tyres are listed in seven sizes across 14, 15, 16 and 17-inch rims. They are among the lowest priced tyres on the site, and a set costs little, so the habits you keep matter more than the size.
Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection
Factory sizes begin with 195/55R16, 185/65R15 and 185/70R14, followed by four optional sizes up to 205/45R17.
- 195/55R16 tyres: factory fitment, 2017 onwards
- 185/65R15 tyres: factory fitment, 2017–2024
- 185/70R14 tyres: factory fitment, 2017–2018
- 195/65R15 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2017–2024
- 205/45R17 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2017–2024
- 205/50R17 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2018 onwards
- 205/55R16 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2018 onwards
Your placard lists the size that came with the car, and the sidewall repeats it along with the load index and speed rating. Take care with 205/45R17 and 205/50R17, which differ in profile, and with 205/55R16 and 195/55R16, which differ in width. A local Bob Jane T-Marts store can read the sidewall with you.
Small tyres and low running costs
The 185/70R14 has the tallest wall and a low price, which suits a soft ride. Small tyres lose air quickly, and a soft tyre wears its shoulders fast, so monthly checks pay off.
For daily use, browse everyday driving tyres and compare wet grip. If fuel use matters, eco-friendly tyres are built for lower rolling resistance.
Cold pressures and tread checks
Take pressure readings cold, once a month, and compare them with the placard figure. A reading taken after a drive is higher and will mislead you.
Check tread depth across the full width. The legal minimum is 1.5mm, though wet braking suffers before that.
Rotate every 10,000km or so, and replace in pairs for balanced grip.
Budget tyres are fine for most daily driving, but wet grip varies more between brands than the price suggests. Compare the label rating before you buy.
A fitter can also talk you through the trade-offs between tread life and grip, and check the valves while the old tyres are off.
Small tyres are quick and cheap to fix when a problem is caught early.
FAQs
What size tyres does an MG3 take?
Factory sizes listed are 195/55R16, 185/65R15 and 185/70R14, with 195/65R15, 205/45R17, 205/50R17 and 205/55R16 as options. Check the placard.
How much do MG3 tyres cost?
MG3 tyres start at $103 and go up to $459 each. The ticket price covers fitting, balancing, tubeless valves, GST and the removal of your old tyres.
