Pro Comp alloys suit utes and 4x4s, from the polished retro Vintage to modern matte black designs. There are nine listings from $232, in 15 to 18-inch sizes.
The designs
- Vintage (PA69): polished, with a retro off-road look that suits older 4x4s and anyone after something other than black.
- Wraith and Pulse: matte black for a modern look.
- Rockwell: satin black, including an 18x9 heavy-duty fitment.
Fitments and what they suit
- 6x139.7: seven of the nine wheels. Fits the HiLux, Ranger, Triton and many other utes and 4x4s.
- 8x165.1: the 18x9 Rockwell, for heavy-duty pickups.
- 5x139.7: one option for vehicles such as the Suzuki Jimny and older RAM 1500s.
Offsets run from -25 to +20, so most Pro Comp wheels sit wider than a factory wheel.
Before you buy
- Stance and clearance. A negative offset pushes the tyre out. Check it clears the guards at full lock.
- Your state's rules. Wheel track limits differ between states, so check before going wide.
- Tyre size. A 15 or 16-inch wheel suits taller all-terrain tyres and more airing-down room.
- Load rating. Make sure it covers your loaded weight if you tour or tow.
Looking after polished alloy
Polished wheels may not have a clear coat, so they can dull over time. Wash them after beach or dirt driving, and use a suitable alloy polish to keep the shine.
What a negative offset changes
- Wider track. The wheel sits further out, which looks tougher and can add stability.
- More bearing load. Moving the wheel outward puts more leverage on the wheel bearings.
- More mud spray. Tyres outside the guard throw more muck up the side of the vehicle. Flares can help.
- Steering feel. Steering can feel heavier and more affected by ruts.
Common questions
Is the Vintage wheel strong enough for touring?
It's made as a 4x4 wheel, so it suits light touring. Check the load rating on the listing against your vehicle's weight.
Why choose a 15-inch wheel for a ute?
A smaller wheel leaves more tyre sidewall. That cushions the rim on rocks and corrugations and helps when you air down.
Will Pro Comp wheels fit a LandCruiser 200?
Not the current listings. The 200 Series uses 5x150, and Pro Comp's range here is mainly 6x139.7. Compare other brands with 5x150 fitments instead.
