Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection

Factory sizes begin with 285/45R22, 275/55R20 and 275/60R20, followed by 18-inch sizes and two optional sizes.

For the Ram 1500, begin with the placard in the door jamb, then match it against the sidewall size, load index and speed rating. The 275/65R18 and 285/65R18 differ by 10mm in width, so read the first number carefully. On the Ram 1500, if you are unsure, visit your local Bob Jane T-Marts store and a fitter will check.

Large tyres on sealed roads and tracks

The 18-inch sizes have the tallest walls, which cushion rough roads and cost the least. The 285/45R22 is the lowest and suits sealed roads, though a short wall leaves the rim exposed.

For mixed driving, compare all-terrain tyres for grip on bitumen and gravel. If most of your kilometres are on the freeway, highway tyres wear evenly and run quietly.

Heavy loads and towing

Tyres this size carry a lot of weight, and towing or a loaded tray adds more. Set pressures for the load, using the higher figure beside the placard.

Check the load index on the sidewall as well. On the Ram 1500, a replacement must meet or exceed the placard figure.

Rotate every 10,000km or so, and have each wheel balanced carefully, since a small vibration at highway speed wears tyres and suspension quickly.
