Subaru XV tyres are listed in five sizes across 17, 18 and 19-inch rims. That short list makes the choice clear: it mostly comes down to sidewall height, ride comfort and price.

Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection

Three factory sizes are listed below, 225/55R17, 225/60R17 and 225/55R18, followed by two optional sizes.

225/55R18 tyres: factory fitment, 2017–2023
225/55R17 tyres: factory fitment, 2012–2017
225/60R17 tyres: factory fitment, 2017–2023
235/45R19 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2012–2023
235/50R18 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2012–2017

The placard in the door jamb shows the original size, and the sidewall repeats it with the load index and speed rating. 225/55R17 and 225/60R17 share a rim, and they differ in profile, so read the second number. A local Bob Jane T-Marts store can check it for you.

The 17, 18 and 19-inch options compared

The 225/60R17 has the tallest wall, so it is the softest and the cheapest. The 225/55R18 is the middle choice. The 235/45R19 has the shortest wall and the highest price, with a firmer ride.

The 235/50R18 and 235/45R19 are optional sizes, so use them only if your wheels are listed for them. A different diameter changes how the tyre fits, and the load index must still meet the placard.

For regular driving, compare everyday driving tyres. Wet grip first, then noise and tread life.

Even wear across the set

Replace tyres as a matched set where you can, and avoid mixing tread patterns. If you replace only two, put the new pair on the rear axle.

Check pressures cold each month. A wheel alignment check after new tyres is worth doing, and the date code on each sidewall tells you how old the set really is.

Tyres with plenty of tread can still be old. The four-digit code gives the week and year of manufacture, and many fitters recommend a check once a tyre is around six years old. Look at the spare too.
