Toyota Fortuner tyres are listed in three sizes across 17, 18 and 20-inch rims. All are tall, wide sizes built for load, so pressure, load index and tyre age matter as much as the size itself.
Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection
Factory sizes are 265/60R18 and 265/65R17, and the optional size is 275/50R20.
- 265/60R18 tyres: factory fitment, 2015 onwards
- 265/65R17 tyres: factory fitment, 2015 onwards
- 275/50R20 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2015 onwards
Your placard lists the size that was fitted at the factory, and the sidewall repeats it alongside the load index and speed rating. The 265/60R18 and 265/65R17 share a width but differ in profile and rim, so read every number rather than the rim size alone. A Bob Jane T-Marts store near you can read the sidewall with you.
Gravel roads, towing and the freeway
The 265/65R17 has the tallest wall and the best protection on corrugated roads, and it usually costs the least. The 275/50R20 is lower and wider, so it suits sealed roads and is more exposed to rocks and potholes.
On the Toyota Fortuner, for mixed driving, compare all-terrain tyres for grip on bitumen and gravel. If you spend most of your time on the freeway, highway tyres wear evenly and keep noise low.
Load, pressure and the spare
Towing or carrying a heavy load calls for the higher pressure figure listed beside the placard. Check pressures cold before you leave, since a tyre running low under weight overheats quickly.
Treat the spare as a fifth tyre. Check its pressure and date code each time you check the others, because a spare that never touches the road still ages.
Large tyres cost more to replace, so rotating every 10,000km or so is a cheap way to extend the life of the set.
Ask the fitter to balance each wheel carefully, since a vibration at highway speed wears tyres and suspension alike.
The sizes above apply to the Toyota Fortuner only. If you are also buying for another Toyota, the Toyota Yaris tyres and Toyota Aurion tyres pages have the lists that apply to them.
FAQs
What size tyres does a Toyota Fortuner take?
Factory sizes listed are 265/60R18 and 265/65R17, with 275/50R20 as an option. Check your placard for yours.
How much do Toyota Fortuner tyres cost?
Toyota Fortuner tyres start at $213 and go up to $1015 each, depending on rim size and tyre type. The price per tyre already includes fitting, balancing, tubeless valves, GST and old tyre disposal.
Do I need higher pressures when towing?
Usually, yes. The placard lists a loaded figure, and sticking to it keeps the tyre cool and the wear even.
