Made by Yokohama for grand touring, the BluEarth-GT AE51 is aimed at drivers who cover long distances at highway speed and want more polish than a basic replacement tyre offers. It aims to blend sporty handling, wet braking, comfort, mileage and fuel savings in one pattern, which makes it a natural fit for sedans, hatches and wagons. An all-rounder with a sporty edge

Yokohama gives the AE51 an asymmetric tread designed to deliver grip and handling along with a smooth, comfortable ride. A reinforced sidewall profile limits flex and heat build-up, which helps steering response and supports even wear. The construction is also kept light, which works with the BluEarth focus on lower fuel use.

Shorter stops on wet roads

Wet braking is a key part of the design. Yokohama's ART rubber blending process spreads silica more evenly through the compound, which the company says shortens stopping distances in the rain. "Lightning" grooves further help grip on wet bitumen, and a two-layer tread is used to combine economy with nimble manoeuvring.

Factory fitted and widely sized

Yokohama states the AE51 is factory fitted to the Subaru WRX and has been chosen as original equipment by carmakers including Lexus, Toyota and Mazda. More than 50 sizes cover everything from compact hatches on 16-inch wheels to performance sedans on 19 and 20-inch alloys, so it suits a wide spread of everyday driving cars.
