It suits drivers who want steady handling, a quiet cabin and confident wet-weather grip, along with lower fuel use. Stability for a higher-riding vehicle

An SUV sits higher than a sedan, so it leans more through corners and during sudden lane changes. Yokohama tuned the AE61 to give the extra on-road stability these vehicles need, using an asymmetric tread pattern that balances grip, handling and ride comfort. A rounded "mound" tread profile is used to spread wear evenly across the tyre, helping it last longer.

Wet grip and fuel efficiency

Four straight grooves run around the tread to move water away and help the tyre grip in the wet. Yokohama's ART rubber blending technology disperses silica more evenly through the compound, which the company says shortens wet braking distances. As part of the BluEarth range, the AE61 is also designed with lower rolling resistance in mind to help reduce fuel use.

Quiet running and size options

A five-pitch tread sequence breaks up the sound the tyre makes as it rolls, keeping the cabin calmer on coarse bitumen. Sizes cover small SUVs on 16 and 17-inch wheels through to mid-size SUVs on 19 and 20-inch alloys, and a few run-flat and ECO-marked versions are offered too. If your SUV regularly heads to unsealed campsites or farm tracks, a more rugged SUV pattern will cope better with stones and cuts, usually at the cost of some noise and efficiency.
