Dynamic is the go-to brand for tough steel wheels on utes, 4x4s and trailers, with a small alloy range on the side. There are 460 wheels here from $91.

The Sunraysia

The Sunraysia is Dynamic's most widely stocked design, with almost 200 listings. It comes in satin black, white with a red and black stripe, plain white, chrome and galvanised.

Its simple, strong shape is why so many farm utes still run one.

Choose galvanised for boat trailers and vehicles that see salt water. It resists corrosion better than paint.

Other Dynamic styles

  • Round and D Hole: simple satin black designs for work vehicles.
  • Imitation Beadlock: the beadlock look in D-hole or Sunraysia styles, without the clamping ring of a real beadlock.
  • Drift D Hole, Soft 8 and Black D: more steel looks.
  • Interceptor and Convict: alloy options in silver and black.
  • OEM Plus: powder-coated satin black, close to a factory look.

Sizes and bolt patterns

16-inch is the most common size, followed by 17 and 15 inches. There are 12, 13 and 14-inch wheels for trailers and older vehicles. See 16-inch and 15-inch wheels to compare.

Patterns include 6x139.7, 5x114.3, 5x150 and 5x120, plus 6x114.3, 5x108, 5x139.7 and 4x100. A 16-inch steel wheel with a tall all-terrain tyre is a classic touring setup.

Before you buy

  • For a trailer, compare the load rating with the trailer's loaded weight, per wheel.
  • Buying a spare? Match the offset as well as the size, so it sits where your other wheels do.
  • Steel is heavier than alloy, but it can often be straightened after a hit.
  • Use the right wheel nuts. Steel and alloy wheels can need different seats.

Caring for steel wheels

Steel shrugs off knocks, but paint can chip on gravel. Touch up chips early to stop rust taking hold.

Galvanised wheels need less attention, which is why trailer owners prefer them. Re-check wheel nut torque after the first 100 km on any new wheel.

Common questions

Is an imitation beadlock a real beadlock?

No. It looks like one, but it does not clamp the tyre bead, so treat it like any other wheel when airing down.

What are similar value brands?

Look at King, CSA and PDW. Your nearest Bob Jane T-Marts store can match a spare to your set.

Which Sunraysia finish should I choose?

Choose galvanised for trailers, white for a classic look, and black or chrome for a modern ute.

Will Dynamic wheels fit my trailer hubs?

Probably. Trailers often use 5x114.3 or 5x108 hubs, both covered here, but count the studs and measure before you order.
