205R14 is a niche commercial size for 14-inch wheels, now mostly found on older vans and light commercial vehicles. We list two C-marked options from $215.
The size decoded
- 205 is the width in millimetres.
- No aspect ratio is printed, following the older commercial convention of a tall, load-carrying sidewall.
- R14 means a radial tyre for a 14-inch wheel.
- C confirms commercial construction, which usually runs higher pressures than a car tyre.
The two options compared
- Kumho PorTran KC53 205R14C 109/107Q: rated to 1,030 kg per tyre single and 975 kg dual. The Q speed rating allows up to 160 km/h.
- RoadX RXQUEST C02 205R14C 112/110R: rated to 1,120 kg single and 1,060 kg dual. The R speed rating allows up to 170 km/h.
Both are radial commercial tyres for vans and light trucks, so the main differences are load capacity and speed rating. Pick the RoadX if your placard asks for a higher load index. Either suits a vehicle whose placard lists 109/107 or lower.
Before you buy
- Check the load index and speed rating on your placard first.
- Set pressures to the loaded figure if you carry weight.
- Check the date code on your spare. Older vans often carry a tyre that looks fine but has aged.
- Fit the same model on both wheels of an axle.
- Carry a spare in the same size and rating.
If neither suits
Some vehicles can take an alternative size, but only if it is approved for that vehicle. Your Bob Jane T-Marts store can look into options. You can also compare 195R15 and other light commercial tyres, or read vehicle advice for the Toyota HiAce.
For either tyre, fitting, balancing, a tubeless valve, disposal of the old tyre and GST are built into the price.
Reading the date code
The last four digits of the DOT code on the sidewall show when the tyre was made. For example, 2324 means week 23 of 2024. Have older tyres inspected even if the tread looks healthy.
Caring for commercial tyres
- Check pressures monthly, and before any heavy job.
- Rotate at each service.
- Inspect for cuts after driving on job sites.
Common questions
Why is the choice so small?
Few new vehicles use 205R14, so makers produce fewer models in it.
Can I fit a passenger tyre instead?
Not if your placard specifies a C-rated tyre. A passenger tyre carries less load at the same size.
Can I fit 195R14 instead?
Only if your placard lists it. Narrower commercial sizes may carry a lower load rating.
