Asanti Black has two statement wheels here from $545: a 20-inch passenger wheel and a 22-inch chrome ute wheel. Both suit drivers who want a big-diameter custom look.

The two wheels

  • ABL31 Regal: 20x9 in satin bronze with a chrome lip. It's a 5x120 passenger wheel for large sedans and SUVs.
  • ABL38: 22x9.5 in chrome, in 6x139.7. It's made for utes and 4x4s that want a show-truck look, with a load rating of about 1,133 kg.

Who each wheel suits

  • Regal: 5x120 fits many BMWs and later Commodores. Check offset and bore for your exact model.
  • ABL38: 6x139.7 fits HiLux, Ranger, D-MAX and Triton. It suits a street-focused ute rather than one that tows heavy loads.

Big wheels, short sidewalls

At 20 and 22 inches, these wheels need low-profile tyres to keep the overall diameter close to standard. Expect a firmer ride, and take extra care with kerbs and potholes.

A short sidewall also gives the rim less protection off-road. These wheels are best kept on sealed roads.

Before you buy

  • Tyre availability. Confirm there's a tyre you like in the size you need.
  • Load rating. About 1,133 kg on the ABL38 is lower than many 4x4 wheels. Check it if your ute carries a canopy or tows.
  • Centre bore. Check the bore against your hub, and add rings where there's a gap.
  • Chrome care. Wash brake dust off often with a pH-neutral cleaner to keep the finish bright.

Choosing tyres for big wheels

  • Load index. Large sedans and SUVs on 20-inch wheels often need an XL tyre. Match or beat your placard.
  • Road noise. Low-profile tyres can be louder. A comfort or touring tyre helps.
  • Grip. For sporty driving, see our performance tyres.

Ask your store to quote wheels and tyres together, so the combination is checked for fit before it goes on.

Common questions

Will a 22-inch wheel affect my speedo?

Not if the overall tyre diameter stays close to standard. Choose a tyre size that does.

Can I tow with the ABL38?

Light towing may be fine, but check the rating covers your loaded weight first.

Will the Regal fit my BMW?

It may, as the Regal is 5x120, a common BMW pattern. Check the offset, centre bore and brake clearance for your model, and use bolts with the right seat.
