Helo wheels are for drivers who want shine: chrome, bright PVD and black with a machined face. There are 18 listings from $247, in 16 to 20-inch sizes for 4x4s, SUVs and cars.
Three groups in the range
- 4x4 wheels: about half the range, including the HE791 Maxx, HE879 and HE901. They come in 6x139.7 and 8x165.1 patterns, with load ratings up to about 1,650 kg.
- SUV and car wheels: designs such as the HE880, HE890 and HE912 in 18 and 20-inch sizes, including 5x120 fitments.
- Dual-drilled wheels: 10x112-114.3 designs that suit two common car patterns.
What the finishes mean
- Chrome: a mirror finish that shows the most shine and the most dirt.
- PVD: a bright, chrome-like coating applied in a vacuum. It gives a similar look to chrome.
- Black machined face: black wheels with bare metal cut into the face for contrast. Easier to live with than full chrome.
Before you buy
- Load rating. Helo car and SUV designs carry lower ratings than its 4x4 wheels. If your SUV tows or carries weight, check the rating on the listing.
- Bolt pattern. 6x139.7 suits most dual-cab utes. 8x165.1 suits heavy-duty pickups. 5x120 suits many BMWs and later Commodores.
- Centre bore. Dual-drilled wheels often have a larger bore. Hub-centric rings keep them centred.
- Cleaning. Use a pH-neutral wheel cleaner. Acid-based products can mark chrome and PVD.
Living with a 20-inch wheel
Helo's 20-inch SUV designs need low-profile tyres to keep the overall diameter. That gives sharper steering but a firmer ride.
- Pick a comfort tyre. A touring or comfort-focused tyre in the new size takes the edge off the ride.
- Check the load index. Large SUVs often need an XL tyre in low-profile sizes.
- Watch the kerbs. A short sidewall gives a bright rim less protection from scrapes.
Common questions
How do I keep chrome wheels looking new?
Wash them often. Brake dust and road grime etch into bright finishes if left, so rinse after wet or dusty drives and dry them with a soft cloth.
Can Helo wheels go on a ute?
Yes. Choose one of the 4x4 designs in 6x139.7 and check the load rating suits how you use the ute.
Do Helo wheels suit a heavy-duty pickup?
Some do. The 8x165.1 fitments are made for heavy-duty trucks, so check the rating on the listing against your axle loads.
