Black Star has one wheel listed: the BS-66, a 17x9 satin black ute wheel for $240. It's a wider, darker upgrade for dual-cabs that don't want an extreme stance.
BS-66 at a glance
- Size: 17x9 inches.
- Bolt pattern: 6x139.7, shared by the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-MAX, Mitsubishi Triton and many other utes.
- Offset: +35, close to the position of many factory ute wheels.
- Centre bore: 106.1 mm.
- Load rating: 1,250 kg per wheel.
Who it suits
The BS-66 suits a dual-cab owner who wants a darker, slightly wider wheel. The +35 offset keeps the tyre close to factory, so rubbing is less likely than with a deep negative wheel.
The 9-inch width works well with all-terrain tyres, and the 17-inch diameter still leaves useful sidewall for gravel.
Before you buy
- Centre bore. 106.1 mm matches the hub on Toyota utes and wagons such as the HiLux and Prado. Other utes with smaller hubs need hub-centric rings.
- Load rating. 1,250 kg per wheel suits most dual-cabs. Check it covers your GVM if you tow heavy loads.
- Tyre width. Confirm your tyre lists a 9-inch rim in its approved range.
- Overall diameter. Keep it close to factory unless your ute is set up for bigger tyres.
Tyres to consider
A 17x9 rim is a common base for slightly wider ute tyres. Many owners choose an all-terrain tyre a little wider than standard, while keeping the overall diameter.
After fitting
- Re-torque the nuts. Have them checked after the first 100 km or so, as new wheels can settle.
- Think about the spare. Your factory spare won't match a 17x9 wheel. For touring, consider a matching spare.
- Check alignment. A new wheel and tyre combination is a good time for a wheel alignment.
Common questions
Will the BS-66 fit a Ford Ranger?
The pattern matches, but the Ranger hub is smaller than the 106.1 mm bore. Use hub-centric rings so the wheel sits centred.
Do I need new wheel nuts?
Possibly. Aftermarket alloys often need a different nut seat from factory wheels. Ask when you order.
Is 17x9 too wide for a stock ute?
Usually not, with a +35 offset. The wheel sits close to factory, so a standard-width tyre or one slightly wider normally clears. Check at full lock to be sure.
