The BMW X1 is a compact luxury SUV that spends most of its time on suburban streets and highways, often with a family on board. Its tyres need to stay quiet and composed, grip well in the wet and suit wheels that range from 18 to 20 inches. Search by your vehicle or tyre size on this page to see what fits your X1.

Factory tyre sizes for the X1

The current generation has been sold since the 2023 model year, and the previous generation is still common on Australian roads. Factory sizes by grade:

2023-on sDrive18i: 225/50R18
2023-on xDrive20i (xLine and M Sport): 225/45R19
2023-on M35i xDrive: 245/40R20
Previous generation (2018–2022 models), front-wheel-drive sDrive grades: 225/50R18
Previous generation (2018–2022 models), all-wheel-drive xDrive25i: 225/45R19

Optional wheel packages and earlier cars can differ, and a tyre you see recommended for another X1 may not match yours, even if the model name is identical. Choosing tyres for how you use your X1

Most X1s are daily drivers, so a comfort-focused touring tyre suits the majority of owners: lower road noise, a settled ride and strong wet-road grip. The Continental UltraContact UC7 is one to compare in 225/50R18, and the Bridgestone Turanza 6 is offered in all three current sizes.

If you want sharper steering and more grip on a winding road, particularly on the 19- and 20-inch wheels of the xDrive20i and M35i, compare a performance tyre such as the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S or the Pirelli P Zero (PZ4), accepting a firmer and sometimes noisier ride. Your last set is a useful reference: if you liked its ride, start with options that put similar qualities first; if it felt too firm or loud, tell the store what you'd like to change.

Run-flat tyres on your X1

Check the sidewalls of your current tyres before you order. If they carry a run-flat marking such as RFT, RSC or ROF, your X1 may not have a spare wheel, so replacing like with like is usually the simplest choice. Several patterns come in run-flat versions in X1 sizes, including some P Zero (PZ4) sizes, and our run-flat tyres range is a good place to start. Victoria's tyre maintenance guidance says run-flat tyres must only be fitted to vehicles with a working tyre pressure monitoring or similar warning system, because there's little sign that a run-flat has lost pressure.

If you're thinking of moving from run-flats to conventional tyres, or the other way, talk it through with your local Bob Jane T-Marts store first, including what you'd do about a puncture without a spare.

Current models use 225/50R18 (sDrive18i), 225/45R19 (xDrive20i) or 245/40R20 (M35i xDrive). On the previous generation, front-wheel-drive sDrive grades use 225/50R18 and the xDrive25i uses 225/45R19. Check your placard to confirm.

How much do BMW X1 tyres cost?

Tyres on this page start from around $194 per tyre and go up to about $789, depending on size, brand and whether you choose a run-flat. Bob Jane T-Marts tyre prices include fitting, balancing, tubeless valves, GST and old tyre disposal. If your X1 has tyre pressure sensors, ask the store about any sensor parts.

Should I replace all four tyres on an xDrive X1?

On all-wheel-drive xDrive models, keeping the tread depth even across all four tyres helps the drive system work as intended, so replacing a full set is the simplest approach.
