MG HS tyres are listed in six sizes across 17, 18 and 19-inch rims. The factory sizes changed in the later years, so check which wheel you have before comparing prices.
Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection
Factory sizes begin with 235/50R18, 215/60R17 and 225/55R19, followed by 215/60R18 and two optional sizes.
- 235/50R18 tyres: factory fitment, 2019–2024
- 215/60R17 tyres: factory fitment, 2019–2024
- 225/55R19 tyres: factory fitment, 2025 onwards
- 215/60R18 tyres: factory fitment, 2025 onwards
- 235/45R19 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2019–2024
- 225/60R17 tyres: also listed as a fit, 2019–2024
The door-jamb placard lists the original size, and you will find it again on the sidewall with the load index and speed rating. The 215/60R17 and 215/60R18 differ only by rim diameter, so read the number after the R. On the MG HS, a Bob Jane T-Marts store near you can check it with you.
Comfort, grip and cost
The 215/60R17 and 225/60R17 have the tallest walls and the lowest prices, which cushions bumps best. The 235/45R19 has the shortest wall and the sharpest steering.
For daily use, compare everyday driving tyres on wet grip. If you cover freeway kilometres, highway tyres run quietly and wear evenly.
Pressure and even wear
Check pressures cold each month. A tyre running low wears the shoulders and uses more fuel.
Look across the tread, and read the date code on each tyre. Rotation every 10,000km or so evens out wear, and replacement in pairs balances grip.
Tyre noise and wet grip differ a lot between brands in the same size, so compare the labels as well as the price. A quieter tyre makes daily driving more comfortable, and better wet grip is worth paying a little extra for.
For the MG HS, a fitter can balance each wheel and check the valves while the old tyres are off, which prevents most vibrations and slow leaks.
If you notice uneven wear, ask whether a pressure change or an alignment is the cause.
