Volvo EX30 tyres range from a modest 19-inch size to a 21-inch 285/30R21, so the same name can mean very different prices. Most of the options are XL-rated, which makes the load index the first thing to read on your sidewall.

Tyre Sizes That Fit This Collection

What a 21-inch size does to cost and ride

Moving from the 245/45R19 to a 21-inch size shortens the sidewall by a long way. The ride firms up, road noise rises and the rim sits closer to kerbs. The 285/30R21 has the thinnest wall in the list and the highest price.

Tyres labelled for EVs, listed under EV tyres, are one more option. Compare wet grip and noise ratings with standard tyres before paying extra for a label.

XL tyres and checking the load index

XL stands for extra load. These tyres are reinforced to carry more weight at a set pressure, so a standard tyre is only a like-for-like swap when its load index matches the original.

Look at the load index printed beside the size, check pressures cold against the placard, and keep all four tyres to one construction. Mixing XL and standard tyres changes how the tyres share load.

Replace tyres in matching pairs where you can, and note the date code on each. A tyre with plenty of tread can still be several years old, and rubber hardens with age.
