The EX30’s official 18-, 19- and 20-inch list changes width as well as rim size
Volvo’s current Australian EX30 support material lists three tyre specifications with different minimum load requirements:
- 225/55R18: minimum load index 102.
- 245/45R19: minimum load index 102.
- 245/40R20: minimum load index 99.
Volvo sets V as the minimum speed rating for these EX30 references. The progression matters because it is not just an 18-, 19- or 20-inch choice: the tyre width and profile change too. Treat the list as a vehicle-specific reference, then match the tyre placard and full sidewall on your own EX30 before comparing products. Check the wheel size before each replacement quote, especially where a standard EX30 has the optional 19- or 20-inch factory package rather than the 18-inch combination.
Cross Country has a separate EX30 tyre approval table
The EX30 Cross Country is not simply a standard EX30 with a more adventurous appearance. Volvo’s Australian support guide lists 235/55R18 and 235/50R19 approved combinations for it, while the standard EX30 guide lists the 225/55R18, 245/45R19 and 245/40R20 references above. Do not transfer a standard EX30 result to Cross Country or the other way around.
The distinction also makes sense of Volvo’s published dimensions: standard EX30 ground clearance is 171mm, versus 190mm for Cross Country. If the vehicle uses gravel access roads or carries outdoor gear, choose a compatible tyre after the exact Cross Country placard fitment is established. More clearance is not permission to change tyre diameter or wheel offset without approval.
VOL marking is an EX30 replacement check, not a generic EV label
Volvo says original EX30 tyres carry a VOL marking and recommends retaining it when tyres are changed to preserve the car’s driving characteristics, comfort and electricity consumption. It also says replacements should have the right size for their axle, be the same radial type and preferably come from the original manufacturer. That is a more useful starting point than assuming an ‘EV tyre’ description alone settles suitability.
Use Bob Jane’s rego or vehicle lookup to narrow the product grid, then cross-check with the tyre-size filter. Compare the result with the placard, current sidewall and owner’s material. If the vehicle has replacement wheels, a Cross Country badge with unfamiliar tyres, or the lookup conflicts with the placard, speak with a qualified fitter before ordering a tyre.
