Angelo Mouzouris Breaks Through For Maiden Porsche Podium At Taupo

    April 22, 2024

It proved a successful second round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship for Bob Jane T-Marts driver Angelo Mouzouris at Taupo International Motorsport Park in New Zealand.

Mouzouris, the 2019 Formula Ford champion, broke through for his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup Australia podium in the opening race, dealing with the heavy wet conditions to claim second place.

After qualifying third (another career-best), Mouzouris excelled and climbed up one position at the start to hold onto second place – a great reward in his third year in the Carrera Cup category.

Starting a little further back in Race 2, Mouzouris finished ninth and ended the weekend seventh overall to build confidence heading to the next round in Darwin.

“It was a pretty cool weekend,” said Mouzouris.

“We had qualifying in the wet and did quite well with a third. Race 1 we ended up getting it across the line in second, which was awesome. The team was ecstatic and I can't thank them enough. We put in a lot of hard work to get a result like this.

"Race 2, we started seventh and finished around ninth. We didn't have the pace, but we tuned her up for the following race to finish there as well."

The second Bob Jane T-Marts Porsche of Marcos Flack arrived in New Zealand on a high after being awarded the Race 3 at the Australian Grand Prix, courtesy of a post-race penalty to a competitor. Although Flack was unable to replicate his opening round heroics, it was a weekend of learning Taupo as the rookie qualified 13th and was 18th in the opener.

Flack was 13th in the second before maintaining the same position in the finale.

The young gun says that while the weekend was not exactly what he was hoping for, he says he is playing the long game in 2024.

“It was great to come to such an awesome track in New Zealand,” said Flack.

“I really enjoyed it, despite not being the round we were hoping for after Round 1, but it’s a long championship and we’ll look forward to Darwin."

The next round of the Paynter Dixon Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship is at Darwin on June 14-16.
